English is spelled and pronounced differently in various parts of the world. For example, color is perfectly valid spelling in the US, but not so in the UK. And PowerPoint works different too depending upon which language settings have been specified - if your proofing language is set to English (UK), then the spell checker will suggest that the word color needs to be changed to colour. Also, if your text is marked as French, then both spellings of color/colour would be flagged as incorrect - because them you might be asked to change the spelling to couleur.
Add Audio to PowerPoint Presentations (Screencast Video) In PowerPoint for Windows, you can choose among several sources for your audio: from a library of built-in sound effects, from a free library on Office.com, from your own files on your computer, and you can also record your own audio. Feb 21, 2014 The language of all the text is set to Polish (even though it is written in English). I want to edit and use this presentation in English, but all the Quotes are formatted oddly, and all the words are underlined as misspelled.
Clearly, the fact that PowerPoint adds red squiggly underlines to properly spelled words can be a nuisance - but that's something you can rectify. In such situations you first need to have for all or any of the languages that you need to work within PowerPoint. Then you need to follow these steps:. First select the text container you want to change the proofing language for, as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1: Text container selected.
Tip: A text container is any of these three slide objects that can include text:,. Now, select the Tools Language menu option as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2: Select the Tools Language menu option. Figure 3: Language dialog box. Scroll down the Mark selected text as list to select any other language - all installed languages are listed here as shown in Figure 4, below. Choose the language you want to use for your selected text container. In Figure 4 you can see that we selected French (France). Thereafter, click the OK button. Figure 4: Select a language for proofing Now, when you spell check your slides, the text in this particular container will be proofed for the language set for proofing.
Repeat the process for any other text containers within your presentation. Save your presentation. If you want to set any language as the default proofing language, follow these steps:. First access the Language dialog box as explained in steps 1 and 2 in the preceding section. Choose the language you want to use as the default proofing language. Then, click the Default button (highlighted in red within Figure 4, above) within the Language dialog box.
This will bring up a message window as shown in Figure 5 - click Yes button in this window. Figure 5: Do you want to change your default language?. This will set the selected language as the default proofing language which is indicated by its first position within the Mark selected text as list within Language dialog box as shown highlighted in red within Figure 6. Figure 6: Default proofing language changed Now, when you spell check your slides, the text in the entire presentation will be proofed for the language set for proofing.
I have several presentations where some slides were developed by someone in the US and some were developed by poeple in Mexico, Brazil, and the UK - all slides were created in English, but PowerPoint used the spellchecker of each person's native language for their slides. The slides were then combined into one large presentation. Now, each slide in the presentation is using the spellchecker language from the country that slide was created in, so one slide is using the English spellchecker, another slide is using the Spanish spellchecker, etc. Since the whole presentaiton is in English, it is showing a lot of 'misspellings' that are actually correct because of the different spellcheckers. Is there a way to change the spellcheker language for all slides in a presentation at once? Right now, I am going in and changing the spellchecker language for each slide individually which is very time consuming. I tried going to slide sorter view to change the spellchecker language for all slides that way, but the 'Language' selection under Tools is grayed out in slide sorter view and can't be accessed.

Any suggestions? It doesn't happen often but when it does, it is very satisfying!! This macro solution worked perfectly for me. The only thing I needed to change in the code was the language code (for UK English) and that was it!
A 180 slide ppt written by French people in English could now be spell checked properly. It would have taken me hours to manually change the language ID for every text box. This whole procedure took about 10 minutes and in future will take just a couple of minutes if come across the problem in another ppt. Thanks for the tip!!! Thanks a bunch - a good idea that helped a great deal, but it still doesn't change the language for anything in an inserted text box because those don't show up in the outline.
Let me know if you have any other advise (or anyone else!) and thanks again for your help!: JBarbato, Open your presentation and choose the outline tab on the left of your screen, this shows you all of the text you put in the slides. Now select them all (CTRL+A).
Choose Tools and Language, select English as the language and hit OK. This works for me here in PPT 2003.
